Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), located in Pune, is a premier research, testing and statutory certification agency for the automobile industry promoted by the Industry itself. Shri Shakti and ARAI have developed Conversion Kits for Bajaj Auto-Rickshaw which have been field tested already and are ready for commercial production. The technology is fully indigenous and consists of vacuum operated gas-air mixing system and pumpless lubrication system (Patents pending).
Unlike imported kits, the indigenous kit will also be very economical. Including all other costs (Cylinders, installation etc), the kits could be marketed at about Rs. 12,500/- for three wheeler and Rs. 10,000/- for two wheeler. At this conversion cost the pay back is 13850 kms for three wheelers and 15000 kms for two wheelers. Assuming that a three wheeler runs on an average 100 Km. per day, its pay back period is 139 days i.e. about 5 months. For two wheelers, assuming 60 a day, the pay back period is 333 days i.e., 11 months. What’s more, LP Gas is much more economical than petrol - the running costs being less than half!
Now that at Government Notifications are in place SSLPG has obtained Type Approval Certification from ARAI vide certificate No. ARAI/CMVR-LPG(In-use)/230B/2002 - 292 Dated 5 Aug 2002
