What does an Energy Service Company do?
The ESCO concept, which originated in the USA during the oil shock of '70s,has gained momentum worldwide in the last three decades. Who is Energy Management good for?
Although good energy practises should be followed by everyone of us, especially in an energy deficit country like India, to benefit most from professional services in energy management, you should ideally:
• Be a HT consumer
• Have a contracted demand of 500 kVA and above
• Use 100 MT/month of coal, or equivalent furnace oil etc.
• Have an energy bill (power + fuel) in excess of Rs. 4 lakhs per
month

How is Energy Management different from Energy Auditing?
Energy Auditing is the older, limited, but more widely known version of our kind of service. It entails only a survey of your energy related operations followed by a report of the shortcomings.

Energy Management goes many steps further. Not only does it help you meet statutory requirements, it provides you the outline for action as well.

What will SSAEL do in my company?
As an ESCO, we start with a 'Baseline Study'. Conceptually similar to energy auditing, this study lays the base for our constructive revamp of your energy systems. The study involves:
• Demand Side Management (DSM) to optimise your contracted
demand
• Study of past data, trends, and wasteful practises
• Comparative studies to substantiate data (e.g., to determine
whether your equipment is optimal for your energy needs)
• Fixing relationships between operation and consumption and
therefore arriving at 'Energy per Unit Production' (existing and
desired energy norms;benchmarking)
• Identifying systemic corrections for energy devices to deliver to full
capacity

The findings of baseline studies alone, if routinely implemented, can effect energy savings of around 5%!

What next?

Having agreed with you on certain operational practises and process changes, it becomes our imperative to:
• Define energy conservation targets based on an implementation
strategy that keeps in view slack periods
• Re-orient procedures to bring about organisational change insofar
as energy utilisation practises are concerned
• Define optimum load capacities and re-design systems
