See it to believe it!

The emissions with LP Gas as motor fuel, are considerably reduced, particularly Carbon Monoxide and Oxides of Sulphur and Nitrogen . Typically, the converted Auto Rickshaw that we have developed has the following emissions levels:

Mass Emission on LPG Mode

Test Mass Emission (g/km) Idling after test

Condition

CO HC NOX HC+ CO2 Engine CO

NDIR HC           NOX      rpm   (%vol)                  (ppm C6)

Warm Start 1.06 6.31 0.03 6.34 50.12 1300-1380 1.35 9000

It may noted that Oxides of Sulphur are nil because LPG used in India as per IS : 4578 is free of Sulphur and Hydrogen Sulphide.

Presently, in India there are no emissions norms for LPG operated vehicles. The norms are being formulated and the concerned authority is going to issue notification for the same. As per the understanding we have, the LPG converted vehicle should meet COP norms prevailing in the year of manufacture of the vehicle.

1996 COP NORMS AS PER Dr. RANGANATHAN COMMITTEE REPORT

Test Condition Mass Emission (g/km) Idling CO(%)

                         CO   HC + NOX

Warm Start 8.1     6.48    4.5

In comparison with the 1996 COP norms as per Ranganathan Committee report for Petrol vehicle, the LPG run vehicle clearly shows tremendous reduction on emissions levels particularly Carbon Monoxide (down by 76%) Sulphur Dioxide and Nitrous Oxides are either absent or negligible.
