Shri Shakti LPG Ltd., has
bagged its first export order of Shakti Gas Autokits (SGAK) for Sri Lanka. The company has
developed SGAK for running three wheelers on liquefied pertorleum gas.The use of LPG as
autofuel is permitted Sri Lanka.
According to Shri Shakti
Chairman and Managing Director, Mr.D.V.Manohar, the first consignment of 100 SGAKs worth
$8,900 would be despatched this week.Shri Shakti has entered into an agreement with
Associated Motorways of Sri Lanka to market its SGAKs in that country. This company is
also planning to export SGAKs to other SAARC countries.
Mr.Manohar told newspapers
that, SGAKs have been developed by Automotive Research Association of India(ARAI)
and Shri Shakti LPG (SSLPG). The retrofittable kits for three wheelers have been
tested and approved by Vehicular Research and Development Establishment(VRDE). Apart from
being environment friendly, SGAKs would reduce the running cost of a vehicle by 50
percent. In a few months span, the company would also be coming out with
similar LPG kits for two-wheelers, he said.
Shri Shakti got an approval
in March for running a pilot project on the use of LPG as three-wheeler fuel in Andhra
Pradesh. Mr.Manohar said that the 10 weeks of field-trails on 40
autorickshaws will be demonstrated the safety and advantages of using
LPG as autofuel.
With the recent decision of
the Union Cabinet to permit LPG as an autofuel, Mr.Manohar was hopeful that SGAKs would
shortly be allowed, to be used in three-wheelers. Currently, this company has a capacity
to produce 1.8 lakh SGAKs per annum. "We can double this capacity in a short
time," he said.
Mr.Manohar also indicated
the possiblity of a tie-up with Bajaj Auto for retrofitting old autorickshaws with
SGAKs. |
